In today's world, women are beginning to tell their stories and expose the pervasiveness of sexual harassment in their societies. The major issues seen in females are domestic violence and sexual assault. But they have also been providing devastating effects on children. These affects women's mental and physical health as well as their social and economic status.
Amrita, a girl in her late teen shares her dead past with Astitwa team. She recalls a very bad phase of her childhood days, when her father used to work abroad and mother at office. At the age of 5, her own relative (uncle) forcibly had sex with her when there was nobody at home. A small girl couldn't defend herself because she was unaware of the fact what has happening with her. This violent incident in her life was repeated again, at the age of 10. During those days, a family with three sons resided in rent in her home. The eldest one used to pull, leer and sexually abuse her. She made different reasons for her safety. But one day, when there was no light in their house, they all were happily playing hide and seeks in the evening. Everywhere it was darkened and she had no idea that the elder guy was right behind her. Thus, for the second time, Amrita was again a victim of a guy who fulfilled his erotic desires. She denied him a lot but her faith and luck couldn't support her and she was enforced to sleep with him.

At the age of 12, when she was studying in class five, the eldest one used to come at her place. Even though their family left, he used to come at her place with such harmful intentions in his mentality. Whenever he found her alone, he used to threaten and scold her in order to sleep with him. He even used to hurt her at the time of sexual intercourse. Later, he even brought his middle brother and she was again cursed by the brutality of her life. But her mother was still unaware of these real facts of her life.

Amrita shares that she wants to forget her childhood as a fragile dream or as a very dreadful incident of her life. Now, at the age of 19, she feels guilty for not speaking with her parents regarding those cruel incidents of her life. If she had made complaints, then she would have been in the safe side punishing those guys. She tells that, teenage life is very difficult one, where a teen feels shy and is afraid and unexpressive. At that time, she was very scared from her mother and thought of getting beaten and scolded by her. Also, the threats and fear of those persons in her mind was another point for not revealing the truth.
She wants everyone to know about the reality of her past life so that after reading her story, hope one could find a way to defend her and build a positive-esteem.
If one does this, then she can't be invaded and can put forward the grievances towards her parents. If this unpleasant incident had taken place in her life, then it might be occurring with other girls as well. So, a girl is safe nowhere. She also wants parents to be alert regarding their children because sexual harassment at home is a very major concern these days. The exploitation of child is done so that the adults can gratify themselves. That’s the reason why parents need to supportive and listen, believe and care enough to act.
